Transesophageal Echocardiogram
 

 
A specialized echocardiogram of the heart that requires passing an ultrasound probe into the patient’s esophagus, adjacent to the heart, allowing a very accurate picture of the internal structures of the heart. This test is used to look for blood clots or tumors in the heart and to assess heart valves. This test is performed as an outpatient in the hospital cath lab recovery room.
